UPCOMING TOUR DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED

Calling Us Home is a story of hope, a story of love and a story of home. The musical premiered on 17 August 2017 at the Joburg Theatre with an all-star cast of 33 and will be staged in October 2018 at Artscape in Cape Town.
A young woman, Grace, prepares to leave the country of her birth. Her safety is threatened by war and she is forced to flee, to abandon everything she loves for the uncertainties of a new urban jungle, where concrete structures block out the stars in the sky.

As she journeys across the savannah and the ocean to this new home, she meets others like her, with similar stories of survival, compassion and courage. They become her friends, her travelling companions, her family. Amongst them she finds a love ‘so strong that it tears the night sky apart’.
But light is never far from darkness and in the dark there is danger. Where will Grace find her true home? Follow her as she journeys to a country that doesn’t know her, under a sky that won’t ease her longing.

Calling A Star is a competition aimed at identifying highly talented high school singers, giving them the opportunity to win a place on the cast of Calling Us Home.

The aim of this competition is not just to give these talented young singers a chance to live their dream on the stage of a great production, but also to empower them by mentoring and educating them about building a career in the Entertainment Industry.

Breakdown of the competition:

  • High school learners from the city Calling Us Home is being staged in, are invited to send online entries of themselves singing their favourite musical theatre song.
  • A panel of judges choose 10 finalists – 5 boys and 5 girls, from the entries received.
  • The finalists participate in an intensive weekend workshop, based on the Africa Voices Trust curriculum, where they are mentored by people in the entertainment industry and are taught a bit about everything from performance techniques to marketing themselves as a brand and the nature of the entertainment business.
  • The finalists perform at a live event, where two winners – one girl and one boy – are chosen to become part of the cast of Calling Us Home run which is being staged in their city.
